The government initially planned to receive recommendations by the 18th but extended the deadline once until the 25th.
So far, all other organizations except physicians, such as hospitals, demand-side groups, and research organizations, have completed recommending members for the physician workforce estimation committee. Although the recommendation period has ended, the Ministry of Health and Welfare plans to continue requesting member recommendations from the medical association.
The Ministry of Health and Welfare plans to launch each workforce supply and demand estimation committee within this year. With just over two months remaining, they believe that if the medical association recommends members, the committee can be launched within the year.
Unlike the physician sector, the nursing workforce estimation committee has received member recommendations from supplier organizations, demand-side organizations, and research institutions. The Ministry of Health and Welfare plans to review the recommended members, select the final members, and launch the nursing workforce estimation committee by the end of the year.
The workforce supply and demand estimation committee is an expert body established to scientifically and professionally derive the appropriate scale of medical personnel considering mid- to long-term medical demand. The committee calculates the necessary personnel using scientific methods and then reports the results to the policy decision-making body, the Health and Medical Policy Deliberation Committee.
The government plans to establish separate estimation committees for each profession, including physicians, nurses, Korean medicine doctors, dentists, and pharmacists, but will first form committees only for physicians and nurses.
