Electric Two-Wheeler Battery Swaps Also at GS25... BSS Stores Surpass 400 Locations

Battery Swap Transactions Surpass 100,000 This Year
GS Retail's convenience store GS25 announced on the 29th that it has expanded its electric two-wheeler battery swapping facilities (Battery Swapping Station·BSS) to 400 stores. GS25 plans to expand nationwide mobility services through BSS.
According to GS25, the number of customers using electric two-wheelers has been increasing recently due to the growing demand for delivery services. However, the time-consuming battery charging issue is considered the biggest obstacle to the widespread adoption of electric two-wheelers.

In response, GS25 introduced electric two-wheeler battery swapping facilities by collaborating with KooRoo, an in-house independent company (CIC) of LG Energy Solution, utilizing the offline convenience store network and idle spaces in front of stores. This facility began deployment in the first half of 2023, surpassed 130 stores by the end of 2023, and increased to 250 stores by the first half of 2024. It recently surpassed 400 stores by the end of this month.
This electric two-wheeler battery swapping facility saves time by exchanging the battery itself, unlike the existing plug-in charging method. As of October this year, the number of battery swaps used by electric two-wheeler customers at GS25 has exceeded 100,000.
The KooRoo electric two-wheeler battery swapping facilities currently installed at GS25 are mainly located in Seoul, the metropolitan area, and Ulsan. Next year, GS25 aims to expand to about 1,000 stores focusing on major metropolitan cities and establish itself as a nationwide mobility platform.
In addition to electric two-wheeler charging, GS25 provides electric vehicle charging services at more than 20 stores nationwide. Furthermore, it continues to expand its mobility service areas, including tire rental and Hi-Pass integrated services. With the expected increase in demand for vehicle waiting spaces due to the expansion of car sharing and autonomous rental cars in the future, GS25 plans to introduce various new services to support this.
