Goyang-si Conducts Intensive Crackdown on Overdue Vehicles in Q4
Focused Seizure of Vehicles with More Than Two Outstanding Car Tax Payments... Realizing Tax Justice
Goyang Special City, Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Lee Dong-hwan) announced on the 29th that it will operate the 2024 4th Quarter Nationwide Crackdown Day for delinquent vehicles (October 29) to actively collect local tax arrears.
Through active on-site collection activities until October this year, the city has cracked down on 958 delinquent vehicles and collected a total of 450 million KRW in local taxes.
Vehicles subject to license plate seizure are those that have delinquent automobile tax payments two or more times. Vehicles with four or more delinquent automobile tax payments or high-amount habitual delinquent vehicles with local tax arrears of 2 million KRW or more will be subject to immediate forced towing and auction as strong administrative measures.
In addition to the nationwide crackdown day, the city continuously conducts on-site collection activities by tracking the driving history of vehicles operated by high-amount delinquent taxpayers or vehicles whose actual users differ from the registered owners (commonly called "Daepocha").
If a license plate is seized due to automobile tax delinquency, the full amount of the arrears must be paid to retrieve the license plate. Operating a vehicle without a license plate attached results in a fine of up to 3 million KRW according to the Automobile Management Act.
