On the 28th, Jeollanam-do announced that it held the ‘Jeollanam-do Integrated Workshop on Health and Medical Care for Persons with Disabilities’ at the Shilla Stay Hotel in Yeosu, hosted by the Jeonnam Regional Health and Medical Center for Persons with Disabilities, and decided to strengthen public-private cooperation to guarantee the health rights of persons with disabilities.
Under the theme of ‘Health Enjoyed Together, a Discrimination-Free Jeonnam,’ the workshop was attended by about 100 people, including public officials in charge of health support for persons with disabilities and workers at welfare facilities for persons with disabilities. It served as a communication platform to share various policy proposals and ideas to guarantee the health rights of persons with disabilities.
At the workshop, Kim Dong-a, Director of the Central Health and Medical Center for Persons with Disabilities at the National Rehabilitation Center, emphasized the necessity of national policies to eliminate health inequalities for persons with disabilities and to guarantee comprehensive health rights through a special lecture titled ‘Understanding Health Rights for Persons with Disabilities and Major Policies,’ and introduced key policies currently being promoted by the Central Health and Medical Center for Persons with Disabilities.
Professor Jo Jun from the Department of Social Welfare at Dongshin University added significance to the workshop by presenting research on the current status of health rights and medical services for persons with disabilities in Jeonnam, proposing improvement measures to resolve disparities in medical accessibility and resource imbalances among cities and counties.
The Yeosu City Welfare Center for Persons with Disabilities attracted great interest and response from attendees by presenting a case study on ‘Rehabilitation Support for Persons with Disabilities Using Robots,’ which has been implemented since July, demonstrating new possibilities for medical support for persons with disabilities through the convergence of advanced technology and medical services.
