Newly Reborn 'Geumcheon Waterfall Park' Transforms into a Geumcheon-gu Landmark
Reconstruction of Artificial Waterfall Reflecting Hoamsan's Famous Kalbawi Rock
Improving Resident Convenience with Experiential Artificial Waterfall, Pedestrian Deck, and Water Play Facilities
Creating Unique Spaces Differentiated by Attractive Gardens and Rose Gardens
Geumcheon-gu (Mayor Yu Seong-hoon) announced that Geumcheon Waterfall Park has been newly renovated and opened from October to allow residents to enjoy a comfortable rest in nature.
Siheung-dong, where Geumcheon Waterfall Park (Siheung 3-dong 937-2) is located, serves as the gateway area to the southwest of Seoul. It is a place encountered not only by local residents but also by numerous vehicles passing along Siheung-daero.
The waterfall, created in 2008, has served as a symbolic feature of the park with a width of 32m and a height of 12m. However, due to aging facilities causing leaks and cracks, reconstruction was decided in 2020.
During the reconstruction process, the district held surveys and residents’ briefings to gather opinions and created a specialized park differentiated from other areas.
The previously dark and old waterfall was reshaped to resemble Kalbawi Rock, a famous feature of Hoamsan Mountain, with a width of 33.5m, a height of 14m, and an area of approximately 4,835㎡. The three streams of the waterfall symbolize the three neighborhoods of Geumcheon-gu: Gasan-dong, Doksan-dong, and Siheung-dong. New facilities such as ▲a walking deck ▲water play facilities ▲rest areas ▲and a rose garden were added.
The 155m walking deck connecting the upper and lower parts of the park allows residents to take a stroll without burden and experience the waterfall up close.
At the upper part of the waterfall park, a space for cultural life and relaxation has been prepared with benches, exercise equipment, and the Geumcheon Cultural Center, where various cultural events are held. In particular, a new children’s water playground, which was lacking in the Siheung-dong area, has been created, providing a space for children to enjoy.
Along the lower Siheung-daero side, pedestrians can enjoy the cool waterfall as they walk. Additionally, attractive gardens featuring roses, preferred by residents, have been created throughout the park, offering visual pleasure to visitors.
Yu Seong-hoon, Mayor of Geumcheon-gu, said, “I hope the waterfall park, located on Siheung-daero, an important gateway that serves as the face of Geumcheon-gu, will become a landmark of the district.” He added, “We will not stop at creating the waterfall park but will continuously strive to revitalize the park by introducing various programs that can be enjoyed throughout the four seasons.”
