Budget of 28.2 Billion KRW Invested, Daegu Complex Innovation Center's Opening Delayed Twice Due to Poor Construction... Councilor Kwon Ki-hoon Urges Prompt Completion
Daegu City Council member Kwon Ki-hoon (People Power Party, Dong-gu 3) announced on the 25th that he urged the Daegu city government to expedite the construction of the Daegu Complex Innovation Center through a written administrative inquiry regarding the delay in its opening.
The Daegu Complex Innovation Center, equipped with facilities such as a swimming pool and library and built with a project budget of 28.2 billion KRW, was expected to serve as a key facility in Daegu Innovation City, providing various conveniences to local residents. However, due to poor construction, its opening, originally scheduled for June 2023, was postponed. The opening date was then rescheduled to July 2024, but with additional defects discovered, it has been delayed again to December 2024.
In response, Council member Kwon said, “There is significant concern among residents about whether the defect repair work is being properly carried out,” and demanded, “Daegu city should explain the progress and future plans of the defect repair work and clearly answer whether the repairs can be perfectly completed in time for the opening.”
Furthermore, regarding the budget allocated for the defect repair work at the Daegu Complex Innovation Center, Council member Kwon stated, “Daegu city must prepare measures to compensate for this and ensure that the construction is efficiently completed without additional budget input.”
Council member Kwon also mentioned residents’ complaints about the surrounding environment being damaged due to materials piled up at the construction site, urging, “Thoroughly manage the construction site and maintain the environment, and prepare measures to minimize residents’ inconvenience.”
