The Location Chosen by Harris for the Final Debate 7 Days Before the US Presidential Election
U.S. Democratic presidential candidate Vice President Kamala Harris plans to deliver her final speech at Ellipse Park near the White House one week before Election Day, AP News reported on the 23rd (local time). Ellipse Park is the site where former President Donald Trump, who lost the presidential election four years ago, gave a speech rejecting the election results, which incited the 'January 6 Capitol riot' in 2021.
According to the report, Harris's campaign headquarters announced that the Vice President has chosen Ellipse Park as the location for her final speech on October 29, exactly one week before the presidential election day on November 5.
A senior official from the campaign said that Harris's speech will urge the United States to 'turn the page' toward a new era and move away from former President Trump.
AP noted, "The location Harris chose for her speech carries symbolic meaning," adding, "Through this speech, Harris aims to make it clear to voters that this election is a battle between defending democracy and political chaos."
After losing to President Joe Biden in the 2020 presidential election and failing to secure re-election, former President Trump gave a speech inciting election rejection at Ellipse Park, located south of the White House, on January 6 of the following year. This soon escalated into the 'January 6 Capitol riot,' where thousands of Trump supporters stormed the U.S. Capitol. During the aggressive entry of the protesters into the Capitol, clashes with police occurred, resulting in five deaths?including one woman shot?and 184 police officers injured over the 36 hours following the incident.
Former President Trump has declared that if he wins this election, he will pardon supporters who were imprisoned due to the Capitol riot.
