Government to Invest 50 Billion KRW to Transition National Land Information Platform and Others to 'Cloud Native'
IT Resources such as Servers and Storage Utilized as Needed
No Failures or Interruptions... Smooth Service Expected
# The 'Seoul Fire Safety Map Service,' used for fire suppression and rescue operations by the 17 fire headquarters in Seoul, had to be temporarily suspended for about 270 minutes annually for system maintenance and feature additions. However, switching the system to a 'cloud native' approach will drastically reduce downtime caused by system inspections and other tasks. This means the Fire Safety Map Service can now be used 24 hours a day, 365 days a year without interruption.
The government announced on the 24th that it will invest 50 billion KRW to convert 13 information systems from 10 institutions, including the National Land Information Platform and Employment and Industrial Accident Insurance services, to 'cloud native.' Cloud native is an information system construction method that leverages the advantages of cloud computing, such as using IT resources like servers and storage as needed. It is characterized by applying cloud technology from the system design stage to maximize system stability, scalability, and speed.
The biggest advantage is stable service. When an information system is converted using this method, system downtime caused by failures or service modification work disappears. Even if a specific function experiences a surge in users causing overload, the processing capacity automatically expands to provide smooth service. This is why many foreign governments and companies utilize cloud native technology.
This conversion project is not a simple migration of each system to the cloud but is being promoted by dividing the system into multiple small applications to fully leverage the cloud’s stability and scalability features. Systems converted to cloud native can achieve ▲ an average system downtime reduction of 95% ▲ a 26% reduction in service request processing time ▲ automatic capacity expansion by 4.5 times during user surges.
