Suwon City Reduces Search Time for Missing Persons
The city of Suwon in Gyeonggi Province is introducing an AI-based ‘Rapid Missing Person Search System’.
The Rapid Missing Person Search System analyzes CCTV footage installed throughout Suwon by inputting identifying information such as photos of the missing person, quickly tracing their past movement routes and current location.
Suwon was selected for the Public Procurement Service’s ‘2024 3rd Innovative Product Pilot Purchase Project’ in the safety maintenance category with its ‘AI-based Rapid Search Solution for Rescue Targets.’ The product purchase cost is 242 million KRW, supported by the Public Procurement Service.
This month, Suwon will sign a business agreement with the innovative company producing the Rapid Missing Person Search System and plans to begin pilot operation of the system within the year.
A Suwon city official stated, "Until now, we relied on CCTV recorded footage and missing person alert messages to find missing individuals, but by introducing the Rapid Missing Person Search System, we expect to complement existing search methods and significantly reduce the time required to locate missing persons."
