Why Did Apple CEO Tim Cook Return to China After 7 Months?
Visit to China Amid Declining Market Share
As Apple's market share in China declines, foreign media reported that Apple CEO Tim Cook visited China again after seven months.
According to AFP on the 22nd (local time), CEO Cook posted a photo on his Chinese social media account showing him meeting with Chinese university students in a crop greenhouse.
Cook explained in the photo caption, "We are committed to empowering the (Chinese) community and creating opportunities," adding, "It was really great to meet students from China Agricultural University and Zhejiang University to learn in detail how they use iPhones and iPads to help farmers adopt more efficient and sustainable farming practices."
AFP reported that Cook's second visit to China this year, following March, took place amid China's economic slowdown and weak consumption, with Apple's market share being overtaken by domestic competitors such as Huawei.
From April to June, Apple recorded global sales and net profits of $85.8 billion and 118 trillion won, and $21.4 billion and 30 trillion won, respectively.
