A man in his 30s was arrested by the police after driving a Tesla under the influence of alcohol and colliding with a taxi driving in the adjacent lane.
On the 20th, the Incheon Western Police Station announced that Mr. A was arrested and is under investigation on charges of causing death by negligence under the Special Act on Traffic Accident Handling and drunk driving under the Road Traffic Act. Around 11:56 PM the previous day, Mr. A was driving under the influence on a road in Dangha-dong, Seo-gu, Incheon, when he collided with a taxi driving in the adjacent lane. As a result of the accident, Mr. B, a male taxi driver in his 60s, died, and Ms. C, a female passenger in her 20s, was injured and is receiving treatment at a hospital.

At the time, Mr. A was driving in the first lane of a four-lane one-way road and hit the left rear part of the taxi driving in the second lane. Mr. A’s blood alcohol concentration was reported to be above 0.08%, the level for license cancellation. A police official stated, "We will investigate whether Mr. A was driving in a condition that made driving impossible and decide whether to apply charges for causing death by dangerous driving under the Act on the Aggravated Punishment of Specific Crimes." He added, "Mr. A is currently undergoing treatment, so the investigation has not yet proceeded." The police plan to investigate Mr. A as soon as he is discharged and consider whether to request an arrest warrant.
