The Jeonnam Provincial Office of Education is considering the establishment of a ‘Youth Writers School’ and a ‘Kim Dae-jung Reading School’ to honor President Kim Dae-jung’s Nobel Peace Prize and author Han Kang’s Nobel Prize in Literature.
The Jeonnam Provincial Office of Education announced on the 16th that it discussed plans to revitalize reading and humanities education for the 2025 academic year during a major policy meeting held on the 14th.

View original imageIn particular, in connection with the Jeonnam Education Development Special Zone, they plan to operate regionally distinctive reading humanities schools that bring together elementary, middle, and high schools, local universities, and regional literary museums (cultural and artistic institutions) to open various paths for career and academic advancement.
As part of this, they plan to establish the ‘Kim Dae-jung Reading School’ and the ‘Youth Writers School’ for those aspiring to become the next Han Kang, building a Jeonnam-style future school model that explores the reading habits, recommended books, and works of global talents who have been close to books since childhood.
Earlier, next month, they will sign a business agreement on reading humanities education with Godowon’s ‘Morning Letter Cultural Foundation,’ and starting in 2025, they will launch the ‘Dream Beyond Dream Godowon Reading Program (tentative name)’ at small schools (branch schools) and affiliated institutions, embarking on an ambitious challenge to nurture future leaders through reading.

Superintendent Kim Dae-jung stated, “The spirit of the times embodied by President Kim Dae-jung, who practiced peace, and author Han Kang, who spoke of the value of symbiosis, aligns with the region-centered symbiotic education that Jeonnam education has been focusing on,” adding, “We will actively support Jeonnam’s students to reflect through reading and grow into glocal future talents through writing.”
