The voter turnout for the October 16 by-elections to elect four basic local government heads recorded 8.2% as of 10 a.m.
The National Election Commission announced that as of 10 a.m. on the 16th, out of 323,208 eligible voters nationwide in the four ongoing by-elections, 26,579 people had voted.
The voter turnout for the by-election for the mayor of Geumjeong-gu, Busan was 6.9%, and for the by-election for the county head of Ganghwa-gun, Incheon, it was 11.4%. The voter turnout for the re-election of the county head of Yeonggwang-gun, Jeollanam-do was 9.8%, and for the re-election of the county head of Gokseong-gun, Jeollanam-do, it was 7.7%.
At the same time during the mayoral election of Gangseo-gu on October 11 last year, the voter turnout was 7.1%.
Earlier, in advance voting, Geumjeong-gu recorded 20.63%, Ganghwa-gun 27.90%, Yeonggwang-gun 43.06%, and Gokseong-gun 41.44%. Advance voting, along with absentee voting, is included in the voter turnout announced from 1 p.m.
In the Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education by-election, the voter turnout as of 10 a.m. was 3.1%. In the advance voting held over the previous two days, a relatively low turnout of 8.28% was recorded.

Since this election is a by-election, voting will continue until 8 p.m. The location of polling stations can be confirmed through the voting guide delivered to each household, the local government’s voter list viewing system, or the polling station finder service on the National Election Commission’s website (nec.go.kr).
