World Kimchi Research Institute Successfully Hosts Korea Kimchi Contest
'Immune-Boosting Baek Kimchi with Mountain Codonopsis' Wins Presidential Award
The World Kimchi Research Institute (Director Jang Hae-chun), a government-funded research institute under the Ministry of Science and ICT, announced on the 15th that the "Korea Kimchi Contest" was successfully concluded on the 11th at the Gwangju Kimchi Town Multipurpose Experience Center.

View original imageIn this competition, Ms. Kim Ji-mi (Taebaek, Gangwon), who presented ‘Immunity Baek Kimchi with Mountain Codonopsis’, won the prestigious Presidential Award. According to the World Kimchi Research Institute, the Korea Kimchi Contest is the only competition in the kimchi field that awards the Presidential Prize.
The Minister of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs Award went to Ms. Kim Myung-hee (Gangjin, Jeonnam) for her entry ‘Tamjinman Water Kimchi’, the Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Award to Ms. Choi Jeong-won (Jeonju, Jeonbuk) for ‘Bok Choy Kimchi’, the Mayor of Gwangju Award to Mr. Lee Maeng-du (Gumi, Gyeongbuk) for ‘Kimchi in Pear’, and to Ms. Choi Eun-im (Gwangju) for ‘Boiled Pufferfish Rings’.

Jang Hae-chun, Director of the World Kimchi Research Institute, stated, “This competition served as an opportunity to discover professional human resources to pass on the creative fermented food kimchi and its food culture of the Korean people to the next generation.” He added, “We will continue to focus on training and disseminating experts who can promote the scientific and cultural excellence of kimchi not only domestically but also worldwide.”
