Pedestrian Hit in Dongdaemun Alley... 80s Driver Claims 'Sudden Acceleration'
1 Seriously Injured, 1 Slightly Injured... No Threat to Life
On the 14th, the Dongdaemun Police Station in Seoul announced that they have booked and are investigating an elderly man in his 80s, Mr. A, on charges of injuring two pedestrians in an alleyway (injury under the Special Act on Traffic Accident Handling).
According to the police and fire authorities, Mr. A is suspected of hitting two pedestrians while driving an Equus vehicle in an alley in Sinseol-dong, Dongdaemun-gu, at around 6:18 PM the previous day.
The victims sustained injuries to their thighs and fingers respectively and were transported to the hospital, but their lives are not in danger.
During the police investigation, Mr. A reportedly stated that he suspects a sudden unintended acceleration.

However, it was confirmed that Mr. A was not under the influence of alcohol or drugs. The police plan to summon Mr. A soon to investigate the detailed circumstances of the accident.
