On the 11th, Lee Dong-hwan, Mayor of Goyang Special City, was invited as a guest speaker for a career special lecture at Sewon High School, delivering a talk titled "Challenges Toward Infinite Dreams."
The career special lecture was organized at the request of Sewon High School. The lecture was attended by 150 first-year students and covered topics such as "Mayor Lee Dong-hwan's actual experiences with career concerns during high school" and "Goyang Special City envisioned as an education development special zone."
On that day, Mayor Lee shared the reasons behind his challenge to become the mayor of Goyang and discussed the real concerns he faced while deciding his career path during high school. He also shared the educational blueprint aimed at creating a virtuous cycle where people can be born, learn, and find employment within Goyang Special City through the education development special zone, demonstrating his vision as an urban planner dreaming of a "city where everyone wants to live."
Mayor Lee Dong-hwan stated, "I believe the power to enhance urban competitiveness lies in nurturing talent, so I am deeply interested in creating an educational environment to cultivate Goyang-type talents. In February, Goyang achieved the great success of being selected as the first pilot area for the education development special zone. Building on this selection, this year we plan to collaborate with universities and companies in Goyang to nurture talents in the '4th Industrial Revolution technologies and media content' fields."
He continued, "The city is laying the groundwork for cultivating Goyang-type talents by signing business agreements with three universities as well as Charlton Brown School, a prestigious vocational education institution in Australia."
During the Q&A session with the youth following the lecture, Mayor Lee answered each question at a level appropriate for high school students. When asked about how to develop leadership and responsibility as a mayor, he replied, "I feel a great sense of weight," and added, "As mayor, I make efforts to frequently meet citizens by holding communication meetings with organizations and residents to never forget the importance of communication."
Mayor Lee also empathized with the difficulty of deciding one's future and career path during high school and advised students who have not yet decided their career paths, saying, "Rather than vague worries about your career, if you do your best in the tasks given to you now and continue moving toward your dreams without giving up, a path that can shine in your life will open." He candidly shared about his daily life as the Mayor of Goyang Special City.
