John Hopfield and Geoffrey Hinton Awarded Nobel Prize in Physics for "Establishing the Foundations of Machine Learning" (Update)
Dr. John J. Hopfield, who laid the foundation of machine learning, and Dr. Geoffrey E. Hinton have been selected as the 2024 Nobel Prize winners in Physics.
Hopfield, from the United States, is affiliated with Princeton University, while Hinton, a British citizen, is affiliated with the University of Toronto in Canada. The Nobel Committee praised them for discovering and inventing the foundation that enables machine learning using artificial neural networks. The laureates will be awarded a prize of 11 million Swedish kronor (approximately 1.34 billion KRW).
