Incheon Airport Begins Operation of Advanced Instrument Landing System on Third Runway
Incheon International Airport Corporation announced on the 8th that it has replaced the Instrument Landing System (ILS) of Incheon Airport's 3rd runway with a state-of-the-art system and has commenced full-scale operation.
The Instrument Landing System provides precise approach path and distance information to landing aircraft. It is a key device that helps ensure safe landings even in severe weather conditions. The corporation completed flight inspections using actual aircraft and, based on the technical skills and quality management of on-site staff, started operating the advanced system two months ahead of the original schedule.

In particular, the latest system reduces the controlled area around the runway required for aircraft landing by 41% compared to the previous system, and improves runway operational efficiency by 10 to 20%, allowing more aircraft to take off and land safely.
This system upgrade project has been part of the Incheon Airport Air Navigation Safety Facility Advancement Project, which has been underway since June 2023. Except for the 3rd runway, the other runways (1st, 2nd, and 4th runways) are scheduled to be replaced after 2030, aligned with the end of each facility's service life.
