Research on Tissue Engineering Using Recombinant Enzymes
Master's Student Kim Minjeong Wins 'Outstanding Paper Presentation Award'
Dong-A University (President Lee Haewoo) announced on the 8th that Professor Kim Suhwan from the Department of Chemical Engineering has received the '2024 New Investigator Award' from the Korean Society for Biotechnology and Bioengineering.
Professor Kim was honored with the award at the '2024 Korean Society for Biotechnology and Bioengineering Fall Academic Conference and International Symposium' held recently at the Jeju Convention Center.
Founded in 1984, the Korean Society for Biotechnology and Bioengineering is the largest academic society in the field of biotechnology in Korea by membership. The New Investigator Award, established in 1997, is given to researchers under the age of 40 based on the excellence of their papers published in international journals, patents, and technology transfers in the field of biotechnology.
Professor Kim Suhwan has published over 30 SCI-level papers, holds 6 patents, and has completed 3 technology transfers to date, actively engaging in research. He has been recognized for his outstanding achievements in tissue engineering research using recombinant enzymes.
He said, "I am grateful to receive the New Investigator Award and will continue to contribute to the development of the biotechnology society."
Kim Minjeong, a master's student in the Department of Chemical Engineering at Dong-A University (supervised by Professor Kim Suhwan), received the Excellent Paper Presentation Award at this academic conference for her paper titled "Multifaceted Hydrogels Utilizing Biomass-Derived Carbon Dots and Biopolymer Composites Impart Superior Properties as Tissue Adhesives."

Through this paper, Kim Minjeong presented a new hydrogel cross-linking method suitable for biological applications using biomass-derived carbon quantum dots.
