Namyangju City Increases Activity Allowance for Volunteer Coordinators Revitalizing Senior Centers
From Next Year, Monthly 50,000 Won → 100,000 Won
Joo Gwang-deok, Mayor of Namyangju City, announced on the 7th that the activity allowance for local volunteer guides will be increased from the current 50,000 won to 100,000 won per month starting next year to revitalize senior centers.
Namyangju City, Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Joo Gwang-deok) announced on the 7th that starting next year, the activity allowance for local volunteer coordinators will be increased from the current 50,000 KRW per month to 100,000 KRW to revitalize senior centers.
This increase in activity allowance was actively accepted by Mayor Joo Gwang-deok following a proposal from the Namyangju branch of the Korea Senior Citizens Association. Mayor Joo decided to raise the allowance with the intention of boosting the morale of the senior association and senior center chairpersons who play a pivotal role at the forefront of senior welfare in towns, townships, and neighborhoods, and to invigorate their social participation activities.
The local volunteer coordinator project was promoted to expand the social activities of senior leaders with social trust and experience, and to give back their experience and skills to society, as the role of managers of senior leisure facilities has become increasingly important due to the growing elderly population, including seniors using senior centers.
Until now, branch chairpersons of towns, townships, and neighborhoods, as well as senior center chairpersons, have devoted themselves not only to senior job projects and the operation and management of senior centers but also to infectious disease prevention activities. They volunteer more than four times a month for the local community, including environmental cleanup, youth guidance, and traffic service.
