Yeoncheon-gun Changes 2025 Public Stockpiling Rice Purchase Varieties to 'Yeonjin' and 'Chamdeulim'
Yeoncheon-gun, Gyeonggi Province announced on the 7th that it has changed the public rice reserve purchase varieties for 2025 through a review meeting held at the county office.
Until this year, ‘Daean’ and ‘Chamdream’ were selected as the purchase varieties, but due to the pre-germination issue of the ‘Daean’ variety, ‘Yeonjin’ and ‘Chamdream’ were selected for next year.
The review meeting was composed of related parties including the Nonghyup (National Agricultural Cooperative Federation), agricultural organizations, and rice farmers to comprehensively gather opinions on farmers’ preferred varieties, the status of distributed seeds, opinions of local agricultural cooperatives, and the cultivation area by variety within the region.
The newly selected ‘Yeonjin’ is a variety developed and cultivated as a regional specialty of Yeoncheon-gun, characterized by low protein content which results in excellent rice taste, and strong resistance to various diseases.

A Yeoncheon-gun official stated, “We will do our best to ensure there are no disruptions in securing and distributing the ‘Yeonjin’ and ‘Chamdream’ seeds selected as the 2025 purchase varieties,” and added, “If farmers ship varieties other than the public rice reserve purchase varieties, they will be excluded from the purchase target for five years, so we ask farmers to pay special attention to variety verification and management.”
