Jungnang-gu to Host 2024 Jungnang Donghaeng Fashion Week
Seoul's First Adult Developmental Disability Fashion Show 'Close-T' Held... Fashion Art Themed Empathy Exhibition for Disabilities Also Opened
Jungnang-gu (Mayor Ryu Kyung-gi) is hosting the ‘2024 Jungnang Donghaeng Fashion Week.’
This event was planned to provide creative expression opportunities for people with developmental disabilities and to create a new platform to showcase their artistic potential and capabilities.
Notably, it is the first fashion show for people with developmental disabilities hosted by a Seoul autonomous district, and it holds even greater significance as it is the first nationwide event where people with developmental disabilities directly create clothes and walk the runway as models.
Additionally, through collaboration with local social enterprises, it is expected to contribute to revitalizing the sewing industry and fostering a sense of community solidarity.
The event is mainly composed of a fashion show for people with developmental disabilities and an empathy-themed exhibition. First, on October 8 at 2 PM, the adult developmental disabilities fashion show ‘Closet’ will be held in Exhibition Hall 1 of the Jungnang Art Center. The name of the fashion show, ‘Closet,’ is an abbreviation of ‘Close your Taboo,’ symbolizing the breaking of social taboos about disabilities by using the word ‘closet’ as a metaphor.
In this fashion show, trainees from the Jungnang-gu Lifelong Education Center for People with Developmental Disabilities will participate as models wearing clothes they have personally made. The outfits will be themed around ‘Jungnang,’ featuring designs inspired by roses, pear blossoms, magpies, and Yongma Waterfall Park.
The empathy-themed exhibition will take place from October 14 to 23, for 10 days, in the lobby on the first floor of the district office. It will display the trainees’ works such as clothes and accessories showcased in the fashion show, along with about ten items including rose pressed flowers, bags, and necklaces produced by the ‘Jungnang Integrated Parents Association.’
