Gyeonggi Special Judicial Police Conduct Intensive Crackdown on Illegal Activities in Coastal Food Service Businesses
The Gyeonggi Provincial Special Judicial Police Unit will conduct crackdowns on violations of the Food Sanitation Act and related laws targeting food service establishments along the coastline.
View original imageThe Gyeonggi-do Special Judicial Police Unit will conduct an intensive investigation into illegal activities targeting food service establishments located along the coastal areas of Ansan, Siheung, and Gimpo from the 7th to the 18th.
This investigation is a measure to protect the health and safety of residents by preemptively blocking illegal activities in the food service industry that may occur due to the increase in tourists during the autumn season.
The main investigation points include ▲operating food service establishments without reporting to the competent authorities ▲falsely or confusingly labeling the origin of food or raw materials ▲selling, storing, or repackaging unlabeled food products.
Under the current 'Food Sanitation Act,' operating an unreported food service establishment is punishable by imprisonment of up to 3 years or a fine of up to 30 million KRW. Additionally, the 'Origin Labeling Act' imposes penalties of up to 7 years imprisonment or fines up to 100 million KRW for false or confusing origin labeling, and the 'Food Labeling and Advertising Act' stipulates imprisonment of up to 3 years or fines up to 30 million KRW for selling, storing, or repackaging unlabeled food.

Gi I-do, head of the Gyeonggi-do Special Judicial Police Unit, stated, "Through this investigation, we will strictly deal with illegal activities of food service establishments around the coastal areas," adding, "We will do our best to ensure the health and food safety of residents, and to prevent violations caused by minor negligence such as lack of awareness or carelessness by business owners, we plan to provide and post compliance guidance notices at the sites."
