On the 25th, Kim Kyung-il, Mayor of Paju City, met with Woo Won-shik, Speaker of the National Assembly, at Sarangjae in the National Assembly to request national funding support for the promotion of local projects and urged the prompt enactment and revision of related laws to regulate the distribution of leaflets to North Korea in order to ensure the safety of residents in the border area.
One of the key issues currently facing Paju City is the distribution of leaflets to North Korea by some defector groups. As the number of leaflet distributions to North Korea has surged this year, the frequency of North Korea’s release of trash balloons toward South Korea has also increased, severely threatening the safety of residents in the border area. However, there is no legal basis to prevent this, making it urgent to establish measures to regulate it.
In addition, ▲ comprehensive plan research for the establishment of the National Museum Cultural Cluster ▲ national funding support for the implementation of the Environmental Circulation Center modernization project are urgently needed, making the cooperation of the National Assembly essential for government budget allocation.
Speaker Woo Won-shik also expressed sympathy for Mayor Kim Kyung-il’s urgent request for legislative and budgetary support to resolve Paju City’s major issues and promised active cooperation at the National Assembly level.
