A magnitude 5.9 earthquake occurred at around 8:14 a.m. on the 24th in the southern waters of the Izu Islands, Japan.

View original imageAccording to the Japan Meteorological Agency and others, a tsunami advisory was issued around 8:20 a.m. on the same day for the Izu Islands and the Ogasawara Islands due to this earthquake. The maximum tsunami height was estimated to be about 1 meter. Local media warned that in some locations, tsunamis higher than the estimates could strike.
