Government to nurture 23,000 young farmers by next year... Over 10,000 supported through Farming Settlement Support Project
4 New Long-term Lease Smart Farms and 10 Additional Rental Housing Complexes Established
The government has decided to expand the Farming Settlement Support Project to nurture 23,000 young farmers by next year.
The Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs announced on the 22nd that it will increase the selection scale of the Farming Settlement Support Project by 10,000 people in total, with 5,000 people each this year and next year.
The Ministry operates the Farming Settlement Support Project, which provides settlement support funds of up to 1.1 million KRW per month for up to three years to alleviate the difficulties young people face due to income reduction in the early stages of farming. The Ministry plans to significantly expand the number of beneficiaries of this project, which has been in operation since 2018, to further strengthen support for young people. By next year, the total number of beneficiaries will increase to 23,000.
In addition to the Farming Settlement Support Project, the Ministry plans to further strengthen customized support necessary for young people. Next year, to reduce the farming burden on young people, four long-term lease-type smart farms will be newly established. Additionally, 10 more sites will be selected for the rental housing complexes currently being developed on a scale of 30 households.

Furthermore, the Ministry is discovering and promoting excellent cases to support young people's stable settlement in agriculture and rural areas. Last month, it published "Living in the Village, Laughing in the Village," a collection of excellent stories of 20 return-to-farming and return-to-village cases, introducing young people's settlement cases in agriculture and rural areas. The collection includes cases such as young people who reduce distribution costs by combining crop production and distribution, and young leaders in the insect industry.
