Wonju City Signs Business Agreement with Drone Operations Command and Others

Active cooperation in drone industry foundation, education, research, and technology exchange
Wonju City, Gangwon Province (Mayor Won Kang-su) announced on the 20th at 11 a.m. that it signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for the promotion of the drone industry with the Drone Operations Command, Gangneung-Wonju National University, Gangwon Provincial Economic Promotion Agency, and Korea Testing Laboratory in the investment consultation room on the 7th floor of City Hall.
At 11 a.m. on the 20th, five organizations including Wonju City signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to promote the drone industry and are taking a commemorative photo. The signing ceremony was held with the attendance of Won Kang-su, Mayor of Wonju City, Kim Yong-dae, Commander of the Drone Operations Command, Park Deok-young, President of Gangneung-Wonju National University, Kwon Oh-kwang, Director of the Economic Promotion Agency, and Song Jun-kwang, Head of the Future Convergence Technology Division at Korea Testing Laboratory.
Through this agreement, the parties agreed to actively cooperate on ▲ mutual efforts to foster the drone industry in Wonju City and attract related companies to establish a foundation ▲ linkage among civilian, government, military, industry, academia, and research institutes to expand the defense drone industry ▲ educational support for training drone specialists ▲ regular research exchanges and technological cooperation utilizing the Future Aviation Technology Center.
Mayor Won Kang-su of Wonju City stated, “In the era of the 4th Industrial Revolution, the drone industry is an essential sector for the development of advanced industries in Wonju City,” adding, “We will organically operate the cooperative network with related drone industry organizations being established this time to further accelerate the revitalization of the local economy.”

Meanwhile, the city has been accelerating the practical application and commercialization of the drone industry, having been selected twice consecutively in 2021 and 2023 as the first in the province for the Drone Special Free Zone contest.
