Seongsan Fire Station Warns: "Pets Can Cause Fires"
Seongsan Fire Station in Changwon Special City, Gyeongnam, has recently launched a campaign to prevent fires caused by pets, as the number of households raising pets continues to increase.
Fires are mainly caused when pets press electric stove switches or chew on wires, leading to electrical short circuits, electric shocks, and damage to electrical equipment.
According to statistics from the National Fire Agency, there have been 387 fire incidents caused by pets nationwide over the past three years, resulting in property damage amounting to approximately 1.4 billion won.
Main fire prevention safety guidelines include: ▲ unplugging unused plugs when going out ▲ using induction stove covers to prevent malfunction ▲ cleaning foreign substances such as fur and excrement to prevent electrical short circuits ▲ installing fire extinguishers and detectors for immediate response in case of fire.
Jang Wooyoung, Head of Response, emphasized, "If a house is left unattended, fires caused by pets can easily escalate into large-scale incidents," and urged, "Please pay special attention to fire prevention."
