Cheonan City to Settle All Local Tax Arrears by Year-End
By Early September, 76% of the 15.8 Billion Won Collection Target Achieved
Focus on Disposing of Delinquent Financial Investment Assets
Cheonan City in Chungnam Province is launching a large-scale campaign to collect overdue local taxes.
The city announced on the 13th that it will begin an intensive collection period for overdue local taxes until December of this year.
According to the city, the collection target for this year’s carried-over delinquent taxes is 20.7 billion KRW, and as of early September, 15.8 billion KRW, or 76% of the target, has been collected.
During the intensive collection period, the city plans to focus on seizing financial assets (such as deposits, stocks, and virtual assets) from high-value and habitual tax delinquents, and will conduct on-site investigations to carry out strong, field-oriented collection activities.
In addition, the city will strengthen administrative sanctions such as public disclosure of delinquent lists and restrictions on licensed businesses. To clear overdue automobile taxes, joint on-site enforcement activities will continue, and vehicles with habitual high-value tax arrears will be forcibly towed and put up for public auction.
Furthermore, by utilizing Kakao Notification Talk, the city plans to provide a one-stop service that allows citizens to check and pay their overdue taxes, thereby increasing the collection rate.
A Cheonan City official stated, “We will carry out a variety of collection activities to ensure the effective clearance of overdue local taxes, and will do our best until the end of the year to achieve our collection targets.”
