Prosecutors Arrest and Indict 20-Year-Old for Beating 70-Year-Old Resident to Death in Apartment Smoking Area
A man in his 20s who fatally assaulted a neighbor in his 70s at an apartment smoking area has been indicted while in custody.
On the 12th, the Violent Crime Division of the Seoul Northern District Prosecutors' Office (Chief Prosecutor Choi Junho) announced that they had indicted a man in his 20s, identified as Mr. A, on charges of murder while in custody.
It was investigated that on August 20th at around 7:50 PM, Mr. A met the victim, a neighbor in the apartment, at the smoking area and repeatedly struck the victim’s face and head dozens of times with his fists, and also slammed the victim’s head against landscaping stones, assaulting him indiscriminately to death.
It was confirmed that Mr. A was delusional, believing that the victim was threatening him and his biological mother. The victim lost consciousness after the assault and collapsed, was transported to the hospital, but died within an hour.
The prosecution disclosed the personal information of the defendant on the Seoul Northern District Prosecutors' Office website at around 10 AM that day. This information will be posted for the next 30 days.

The prosecution explained, "This case falls under the category of specific serious crimes as defined by the Act on the Disclosure of Personal Information of Specific Serious Crime Suspects, and the means of the crime were brutal with severe damage caused. Considering the public interest in disclosure and the family’s request for the release of personal information, the decision was made."
