Cultures like Hong-eo and Sangjangrye to be Developed as Future Intangible Heritage
Selected for the 'Future Intangible Heritage Discovery and Development Project'
The Cultural Heritage Administration announced on the 12th that it has selected twenty-five programs as part of the 'Future Intangible Heritage Discovery and Development Project,' including 'Chungju Coffin Making and Funeral Culture (Chungbuk Chungju)' and 'Documentation of Hongeo Food Culture (Jeonnam Naju)'.
The Future Intangible Heritage Discovery and Development Project aims to nurture locally unregistered intangible heritage as representative cultural resources. The recipients are chosen through a local government competition. Selected programs receive up to 100 million KRW (50% national funding, 50% local funding) to establish transmission systems.
Fifty-four programs were submitted for this competition. The Cultural Heritage Administration evaluated the project feasibility and intangible heritage value to select twenty-five programs.
The program 'Chungju Coffin Making and Funeral Culture,' which passed the evaluation, is a project that conducts in-depth research on village-level funeral rites such as coffins and funeral houses through academic conferences. 'Documentation of Hongeo Food Culture' explores the value of fermented skate food culture through oral records and other means.
Additionally, the Cultural Heritage Administration selected programs such as 'Goesan Village Feng Shui Formation and Village Shrine (Chungbuk Goesan),' 'Discovery and Development Project of Ttangseolbeop (Gangwon Samcheok),' and 'Value Discovery Project of Buan Dangsan Festival as Future Intangible Heritage (Jeonbuk Buan)' as support targets.
