The entries gain additional significance as students, teachers, and parents?all members of the educational community?participate in everything from film planning to shooting, editing, and acting.
Since March, the Office of Education has been supporting 10 schools operating the "Capturing Small Schools through Video" program and 2 Jeonnam-type specialized model schools in the film field. The Small School Film and Video Festival will invite submissions from all small schools in the Jeonnam region, including alternative schools, and the event slogan is currently being recruited from Jeonnam students and staff.
Kim Min-su, vice principal of Mokpo Seohae Elementary School and chair of the organizing committee, is leading the event together with 12 committee members, including filmmakers such as directors Jeong Seong-woo and Park Gi-bok, local cultural artists, parents, and school staff. Director Jeong Seong-woo currently serves as the executive director of the "Mokpo National Road No. 1 Independent Film Festival," the only independent film festival in Jeonnam.
Director Jeong Seong-woo stated, "This film and video festival is significant because the Office of Education has created the nation’s first project linking education and film to revitalize the region and schools," adding, "We will do our best to establish this event as a leading film festival in the country."
