Gyeonggi Office of Education Supports Expansion of School Facilities in 1st Generation New Town Reconstruction Areas
The Gyeonggi Provincial Office of Education will provide on-site support to the relevant education support offices to ensure the appropriate expansion of school facilities in large-scale redevelopment areas of the 1st generation new towns.
The education support offices in Gyeonggi-do scheduled for redevelopment of aging planned cities include 13 locations: Suwon, Seongnam, Anyang·Gwacheon, Bucheon, Gwangmyeong, Gunpo·Uiwang, Pyeongtaek, Hwaseong·Osan, Yongin, Gwangju·Hanam, Uijeongbu, Goyang, and Guri·Namyangju.
The Provincial Office of Education is visiting these education support offices to conduct consultations. So far, consultations have been conducted with eight education support offices in the 1st generation new town areas, including Bundang, Ilsan, Jungdong, Pyeongchon, and Sanbon.
The main consultations include checking the progress according to the redevelopment plans, whether school facilities are being expanded due to increased floor area ratios, and measures to minimize the deterioration of the educational environment caused by reconstruction construction.
The Provincial Office of Education has proposed facility improvement measures for schools opened in the 1st generation new towns to the government. The proposed matters include expanding the use of school site charges, which are limited to new construction and extension costs, to include reconstruction and major repairs; establishing grounds for relaxing floor area ratio and building coverage ratio for project implementers in cases of school facility donations; and introducing cash donations to prevent disputes over in-kind donations due to price increases.
