US Atlantic Council "Impact of Korean Culture Globalization"
First Award for Asian Female Entrepreneur
Lee Mi-kyung, Vice Chairman of CJ Group, has been recognized for her international influence as a pioneer of K-Culture and will receive an award from a prominent U.S. think tank. This is the first time an Asian female entrepreneur has received this award.
The Atlantic Council in the United States announced on the 3rd (local time) that "Vice Chairman Lee, a pioneer of Korean entertainment, has been selected as the recipient of the 13th World Citizen Award."
The Atlantic Council cited Vice Chairman Lee's leadership demonstrated over decades at CJ Group by presenting a vision for cultural business, her influence on the globalization of Korean culture including producing the Academy Award-winning film Parasite, and her dedication to promoting artistic storytelling on the global stage as reasons for her selection.
The World Citizen Award, presented by the Atlantic Council, a global research institution specializing in international cooperation and conflict resolution, has been awarded since 2010 to individuals who have contributed to the realization of global citizenship and the advancement of democracy.
This year, alongside Vice Chairman Lee, Nana Akufo-Addo, President of Ghana; Kyriakos Mitsotakis, Prime Minister of Greece; and Giorgia Meloni, Prime Minister of Italy, were also selected as recipients.
The award ceremony will be held on the 23rd in New York City during the United Nations General Assembly period.
At the ceremony, individuals with personal and professional connections to the awardees introduce them, and Vice Chairman Lee will be introduced by Shari Redstone, Chairwoman of Paramount Global.
Among past recipients, Vice Chairman Lee is the first Asian female entrepreneur.
As a Korean, President Moon Jae-in was the first to receive the award in 2017.

Last year’s recipients included Volodymyr Zelensky, President of Ukraine; Olaf Scholz, Chancellor of Germany; Fumio Kishida, Prime Minister of Japan; Janet Yellen, U.S. Secretary of the Treasury; and Victor Chu, Chairman of Hong Kong investment firm First Eastern Investment Group.
