Writer Yoon Dong-gu Personally Reinstalls at TP Tower
Anthony Caro Sculpture at Sales Department Entrance
The work of domestic installation artist Yoon Dong-gu (Untitled, 1995~2024, gold leaf and mixed media) is exhibited at Shinhan Investment Corp. Yeouido TP Tower Sales Department.
View original imageShinhan Investment Corp. unveiled its premium asset management service, 'Shinhan Premier Sales Department,' ahead of the opening of the international art fairs Frieze Seoul and KIAF Seoul. The highlight of the event was the works of Donggu Yoon, a leading installation artist in Korea, and Anthony Caro, a renowned modernist sculptor.
Yoon Donggu's work "Untitled" was originally installed in the lobby of the Shinhan Investment Corp. Tower. Taking advantage of the high ceiling of the building's lobby, it was displayed vertically so that anyone visiting the building could see it. When Shinhan Investment Corp. moved to the TP Tower, they requested the artist Yoon to reinstall the work.
The piece "Untitled" features the image of palm lines, which represent human destiny, engraved on metal. Gold leaf is a beautiful and luxurious material. However, when materials with different properties meet, they create a completely different atmosphere. Metal changes over time due to oxidation, but gold does not rust.
The gold leaf in the artwork has transformed into a strong form that does not lose its unique shine even in a constantly changing environment. Human life also constantly changes and strives to resist change. In this process, the emptiness of life and human limitations are symbolically expressed. Customers of Shinhan Investment Corp. may have seen this work at the Shinhan Investment Corp. Tower. The artist Yoon reinterpreted the existing work by dismantling and rearranging it.
The work of Anthony Caro was also installed. Anthony Caro is a world-renowned modernist sculptor. He is famous for emphasizing compositions of lines and planes and for turning space itself into art. He mainly used metals such as iron and bronze or wood to create his works. Caro often painted his flat sculptures in a single color to eliminate the texture and weight of the material.
However, this work is different. The piece "Still Ballet" likens sculpture to music, composed of three sculptural elements just as musical notes come together to form a melody. The composition of the sculpture changes moment by moment depending on the viewer’s position. This work naturally reveals its rusted surface as it is.
