Electric Mini Cooper SE Recall... "Fire Risk Due to Battery Defect"
BMW Recalls 150,000 Vehicles Worldwide
German automaker BMW is recalling its all-electric model, the Mini Cooper SE.
On the 2nd (local time), BMW announced that due to a battery system defect in the Mini Cooper SE, the battery may shut down while driving, causing the vehicle to gradually stop or catch fire while stationary. Approximately 39,000 units in Germany and about 150,000 units worldwide will be recalled. The affected vehicles were produced between January 2018 and January of this year.
BMW stated that the defect can be resolved through a software update rather than a physical repair. The update includes a diagnostic function that detects battery malfunctions and alerts the driver.
