At a press conference held at the Ulsan City Hall Press Center on the same day, the union said, "Due to the nature of the plant construction sites, there are no properly equipped cafeterias, so workers rely on lunchboxes for their meals."
They added, "This is a critical mistake caused by the construction companies' poor management of the lunchbox suppliers. The day after receiving the report, we sent official letters to the sanitation departments of each district and county office urging hygiene inspections of the plant construction sites and lunchbox suppliers, but only a very small number of inspections have been conducted," criticizing the response.
The city stated that a full investigation is realistically difficult but that it will prevent similar cases through on-site hygiene inspections.
An official from Ulsan City said, "Immediate reporting is necessary when foreign substances are found to allow on-site verification, but in this case, the report was only made through photos, so no on-site investigation has been conducted."
