Establishment of Department of Defense Industry to Train Experts in Unmanned Aerial and Defense Sectors
Gyeongnam Information University (President Kim Taesang) has signed a memorandum of understanding between its Department of Defense Industry and the Korea Unmanned Aerial Vehicle Technology Institute to foster specialized talent in the defense and defense industry sectors.

View original imageThe signing ceremony was attended by Professor Lee Jiyeon and Professor Lee Heejeong from the Department of Defense Industry at Gyeongnam Information University, as well as Director Bae Byeongdeok and Head Park Hongju from the Korea Unmanned Aerial Vehicle Technology Institute, along with other officials from both institutions.
Through this agreement, the two institutions will cooperate in various fields, including the joint advancement of talent development in the defense industry and mutual support in the use of facilities and resources owned by both parties.
With the increasing diversity of drone mission areas and the establishment of the Drone Operations Command in 2023, both institutions plan to focus on nurturing specialized talent in the unmanned aerial and defense industry sectors to meet the growing demand in the military field.
Gyeongnam Information University will establish the Department of Defense Industry for the first time among junior colleges in 2025 to train professionals in defense and K-defense, and will begin recruiting new students in September this year. Professor Lee Jiyeon said, "We expect that this exchange and cooperation will be a great opportunity for students to develop interest in the defense industry and to be recognized as outstanding talent."
Bae Byeongdeok, Director of the Korea Unmanned Aerial Vehicle Technology Institute, stated, "We will actively contribute to fostering specialized talent in the defense industry by sharing our know-how and expertise in drone development projects with Gyeongnam Information University."
