Pohang City, Yeongilmanchingu Night Market Leads Success and Local Business Again This Year
Weekly Various Events and Jungang Shopping District Night Market End with Great Popularity
Mayor Lee: "Revitalizing Local Economy and Tourism, Developing Diverse Programs"
The 'Pohang Jungang Shopping District Yeongilmanchingu Night Market,' which offered a variety of attractions every week through citizen participation events, has succeeded in drawing crowds again this year following last year's success.
The night market, held for eight weeks from July 6 to August 25 in the Jungang Shopping District area, gained great popularity by providing local residents and tourists with a wide range of food and entertainment options.
From the very first day of opening, when 50,000 people flocked to the event, the Jungang Shopping District Night Market became a catalyst for revitalizing the local alley business district. Every week, it showcased spectacular attractions and a variety of foods, bustling with crowds late into the night and creating a lively atmosphere.
In particular, citizen participation increased satisfaction as the night market was operated with various recreational activities such as 'BEER NIGHT FESTA,' 'Wakjajikkeol Magic Night,' busking performances, and traditional art performances, all drawing the attention of the public.
Additionally, tables, chairs, and tents were set up throughout the streets so that visitors could sit comfortably and enjoy their food, and the voluntary opening of restrooms by nearby merchants further enhanced visitor convenience.
Furthermore, the popular YouTuber Heungsam's channel 'Heungsam Life' featured a video introducing the diverse foods of Yeongilmanchingu Night Market, which surpassed 150,000 views and drew significant attention.
This year's night market operated 24 food booths and 8 merchant association flea markets. Every weekend, long lines formed at the food stalls, and the surrounding stores also enjoyed a 10-30% or more increase in sales, experiencing the effects of business district revitalization.
According to the Jungang Shopping District Merchants Association, after 50,000 people visited the Yeongilmanchingu Night Market on its opening day, around 20,000 citizens and tourists continued to visit every week. Riding on this success, the association decided to extend the night market operation independently until September 22.
Lim Donghyun, president of the Jungang Shopping District Merchants Association, said, "The Jungang Shopping District Night Market has gained great popularity with its reasonable prices and diverse food options, bringing new energy to the alley business district. We hope that many citizens and tourists will visit Pohang Jungang Shopping District during the extended operation period and create joyful memories."
