Man in His 20s Indicted for Fleeing DUI Checkpoint and Fatally Hitting Street Cleaner
A man in his 20s has been brought to trial after fleeing from a police DUI checkpoint and fatally striking a sanitation worker.
According to the Cheonan Branch of the Daejeon District Prosecutors' Office on the 29th, prosecutors recently detained and indicted Mr. A on charges including causing death while fleeing under the Act on the Aggravated Punishment of Specific Crimes.
At around 12:53 a.m. on the 7th, Mr. A fled after refusing a police breathalyzer test following a report that a car had stopped at an intersection in Cheonan.
He drove for about 1 kilometer before crashing into a garbage collection truck that was in operation. Due to the accident, a sanitation worker in his 30s, Mr. B, was transported to the hospital in cardiac arrest but later died.
After the accident, Mr. A attempted to flee again but was apprehended at the scene.
