Busan City, together with Gyeongnam Province and Jeonnam Province, will host the '2024 Namhaean Cup International Yacht Competition' from August 29 to September 1.
The 'Namhaean Cup International Yacht Competition' is the longest domestic cruiser yacht race connecting Busan, Gyeongnam (Tongyeong), and Jeonnam (Yeosu). The three regions are co-hosting the event to create a new growth marine leisure tourism belt, aiming to promote mutual development along the Namhaean coast and expand the base of marine leisure activities.
This year marks the 5th edition of the competition, with around 350 athletes from 7 countries participating. They are expected to deliver thrilling races against the backdrop of the beautiful natural scenery of the Namhaean coast.
The competition will begin with a coastal race in the Gamakman area of Yeosu on August 30. From the 31st to September 1, yacht races will take place from Yeosu Ungcheon Circular Marina, passing through Tongyeong, and finishing in Busan, accompanied by various citizen experience events in each region. The entire event will conclude with the awards ceremony and closing ceremony at Busan Suyeongman Yacht Stadium on September 1.
The races are divided into two stages: Stage 1 on the 31st (Yeosu Ungcheon Circular Marina to Tongyeong Donam Port) and Stage 2 on the 1st (Tongyeong Donam Port to Busan Suyeongman Yacht Stadium). Each region will also host its own side events.
In Busan, from August 31 to September 1, both the Disabled Dinghy Yacht Competition and the Amateur Dinghy Yacht Competition will be held at Suyeongman Yacht Stadium from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. In addition to the main event, opportunities will be provided for disabled individuals and enthusiasts interested in the yacht competition to participate and enjoy the festivities.
The opening ceremony will be held at 6:30 p.m. on the 30th at the special stage in Yeosu Ungcheon Beach Culture Park.
Teams and distinguished guests will attend to announce the opening of the competition with a declaration and opening performance.
Park Geunrok, Director of Tourism and MICE at Busan City, stated, "Yachting is a marine sport with infinite charm and is also a key element in determining the stature of a global marine city. As the three regions have recently united to form the Namhaean area into a single marine tourism belt, we will continue to nurture this competition so that it can steadily grow as a symbol of cooperation along the Namhaean coast."
