The Korea Economic Association announced on the 26th that the foundation conducted the "2nd Korea-Japan High School Teacher Exchange Program," inviting 50 Japanese high school teachers to Korea. The Japanese teachers visited Korea for 5 nights and 6 days from the 24th to the 29th, touring schools and companies. This comes seven months after the first program held from January 15th to 19th, when 50 Korean high school teachers were sent to Japan.
Ryu Jin, chairman of the foundation and the Korea Economic Association, said at a welcoming reception held at the FKI Tower in Yeouido, Yeongdeungpo-gu, Seoul, in the afternoon, "The open minds of the youth of both countries are the fertile ground to nurture a future-oriented Korea-Japan relationship," and added, "I ask that teachers from both countries sow good seeds and nurture them with care." Attendees at the reception included Chairman Ryu, Kim Hong-gyun, First Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs, Koichi Mizushima, Japanese Ambassador to Korea, Kim Yoon, chairman of the Korea-Japan Economic Association, and Yoon Deok-min, former ambassador to Japan. Korean high school teachers who completed the first program in January were also invited and had dinner with the visiting Japanese teachers.
On the 27th, the visiting group will visit Hanago, an autonomous private high school located in Seoul. On the 28th, they plan to visit Yongin Samgye High School, a public high school in Gyeonggi Province. The visiting group will communicate with Korean teachers and students through class observations, discussions with students and teachers, and Q&A sessions on the characteristics and current issues of Korean education. They plan to find ways to help form constructive and future-oriented relationships between the future generations of both countries.
Additionally, the itinerary includes visits to major domestic companies and industrial complexes, expert lectures on Korea-Japan economic cooperation and the present and future of Korean education, and experiences of traditional Korean culture. The visiting group will visit Hyundai Motorstudio, LG Science Park, Toray Advanced Materials, and Pangyo Startup Zone to deepen their understanding of Korean industry. They will attend expert lectures by Park Ha-sik, principal of Minjok Leadership Academy, and Kim Woong-hee, president of the Hyundai Japan Studies Association. They will experience traditional Korean culture through visits to Jingwansa Temple, kimchi-making experiences, and watching Taekwondo performances.
A foundation official said, "We hope that mutual visits by high school teachers from both countries will help form a desirable Korea-Japan relationship for future generations," and added, "We ask for much interest in the various activities of the Korea-Japan and Japan-Korea Future Partnership Fund for the development of a future-oriented bilateral relationship."
