'Hyundai Motor's US Trade Strategy Advisor' Sung Kim Awarded the George F. Kennan Award
Hyundai Motor Company Advisor Sung Y. Kim has been selected as the recipient of the "George F. Kennan Award," hosted by the Council on Foreign Relations. As Advisor Kim, who provides guidance on global trade policy responses for Hyundai Motor, is once again recognized for his contributions to U.S. foreign affairs, expectations are rising that Hyundai Motor Group's strategy for the U.S. market will be further strengthened.
On the 23rd, Hyundai Motor announced that Advisor Kim was chosen as this year’s George F. Kennan Award recipient. The award ceremony will be held on October 24 in New York, USA.
The George F. Kennan Award was established in 1994 to honor the dedication and achievements of George F. Kennan, a U.S. diplomat. The award is overseen by the Council on Foreign Relations, a think tank composed of academic and government experts. It was founded in 1974 with the purpose of supporting the achievement of U.S. foreign policy.
Past recipients of the George F. Kennan Award include former U.S. Secretary of State Cyrus Vance, former World Bank President James Wolfensohn, former Federal Reserve Chairman Paul Volcker, and former U.S. Ambassadors to China and Russia Jon Huntsman, among others.
The Council stated, "Former Ambassador Sung Y. Kim has built an outstanding diplomatic career, serving as ambassador to three countries: South Korea, the Philippines, and Indonesia," and added, "This award is given in recognition of his significant contributions to U.S. foreign policy."
Advisor Kim said, "This award is more than a personal achievement; it is the result of the efforts of many superiors, colleagues, and juniors who have worked with me throughout my long public service career," and added, "I will continue to strive to bring about positive changes in the international community and the field of diplomacy."

He has held key positions such as Acting Assistant Secretary of State for East Asian and Pacific Affairs, Special Representative for North Korea Policy at the U.S. Department of State, and Chief U.S. Representative for the Six-Party Talks, earning recognition as a top expert on East Asian and Korean Peninsula affairs within the U.S.
