Korean-American Andy Kim's Democratic Convention Speech... "Refusing the Fate of Growing Up in a Broken America"
Andy Kim, the first Korean American to challenge for the U.S. Senate in the upcoming November election, and a Democratic representative from New Jersey, supported Vice President Kamala Harris at the Democratic National Convention (DNC) held in Chicago on the 21st (local time), stating, "We refuse to accept the fate that our children must grow up in a broken America."
On the third day of the convention, Representative Andy Kim took the stage at the United Center in Chicago and said, "On January 6th, we all learned that we are the stewards of our great republic," referring to the incident on January 6, 2021, when supporters of former President Donald Trump stormed the Capitol. He became nationally known after a photo of him quietly cleaning up glass and trash left on the Capitol floor alone was widely circulated.
Kim recalled the moment, saying, "The floor was covered with broken glass and trash caused by the chaos instigated by Donald Trump. I thought, 'How did it get this bad?' So I did the only thing I could think of. I picked up a trash bag and started cleaning."
He added, "We can heal this nation, but only if we make the effort. Most of you are doing your part by raising your voices and voting. Always remember that the chaos we witnessed is not inevitable." He continued, "There is a yearning for a new generation of leaders," emphasizing, "Let's choose Kamala Harris and Tim Walz, the Democratic presidential candidates."
