Ko Gwang-hyo, Commissioner of the Korea Customs Service (photo), stated on the 20th that he "never requested any favors regarding the customs drug investigation" at the Yeongdeungpo Police Station in Seoul.
At the hearing on allegations of external pressure on the investigation of the 'Customs-Related Drug Smuggling Case' held by the Administrative and Security Committee at the National Assembly that day, Commissioner Ko responded to lawmakers' questions by saying, "I never asked to review the investigation details."
Regarding customs officers visiting the investigation team and checking the briefing contents in advance, he replied, "I heard they requested cooperation." He added, "Public disclosure of suspect facts is illegal," and stated, "There has been no proof of the employees' charges."
On the issue of employees accused of assisting drug smuggling still being on duty, he said, "Since it has not been finally confirmed nor prosecuted, they have no choice but to continue working," and added, "I have instructed them to actively cooperate with the investigation."
