Barami's Daughter to Settle at Cheongju Zoo... Father and Daughter to Reunite Next March
Quarantine Enclosure Stocked... Scheduled for Group Integration After Neutering Surgery
The daughter of Barami, the lion at Cheongju Zoo, settled in at Cheongju Zoo, where her father lives, on the 20th.
According to the city on the 20th, the Cheongju Zoo medical team conducted a health check on the lion, who was at the Twin Animal Farm in Gangneung, Gangwon-do, while she was under anesthesia. Afterward, they departed for Cheongju that morning using a vibration-free, temperature- and humidity-controlled vehicle.
Considering the weather conditions and the lion's health, the medical team adjusted the vehicle's speed and arrived at Cheongju Zoo in about 3 hours and 30 minutes. Upon arrival, they briefly checked the lion's condition, transferred her to a small truck, and then moved her to a quarantine enclosure at the wildlife protection facility, where she will stay for the time being.
Upon arrival at the quarantine enclosure, Cheongju Mayor Lee Beomseok welcomed Barami's daughter by opening the animal house for her.
Mayor Lee said, "Barami has made a remarkable recovery in health after just one year at Cheongju Zoo. I hope Barami's daughter will also receive warm care and live healthily at our Cheongju Zoo."
The reunion with her father, Barami, will not happen immediately, as quarantine procedures and adaptation to the new zoo environment are required.
Cheongju Zoo plans to perform a neutering surgery in November to prevent inbreeding and uterine diseases. Afterward, cross-exposure will be conducted for gradual face-to-face meetings and scent adaptation, with the goal of housing them together around March next year.
During the quarantine period, Cheongju Zoo will install CCTV in the quarantine enclosure and trim the surrounding trees so that visitors can indirectly view the lion.
As of the 20th, Cheongju Zoo, operated by Cheongju City, is protecting 290 animals of 66 species.
