Illegal Mass Harvesting of Freshwater Snails with Modified Nets in Hamyang ... Caught by Off-Duty Police Officer Exercising

Two individuals, including a man in his 50s identified as A, were caught at the scene illegally harvesting freshwater snails in a water source protection area using a modified net.
According to the Hamyang Police Station in Gyeongnam, A and another individual in their 50s are suspected of illegally collecting freshwater snails at around 9:30 p.m. on the 12th in the water source protection area of Wicheon River, Daedeok-ri, Hamyang-eup, Hamyang-gun.
A and the other individual entered the river wearing diving suits and used a modified net weighted with lead to collect approximately 10 kg of freshwater snails.
They were apprehended after a police officer from Hamyang Police Station, who was exercising near Wicheon River, witnessed the act.
Upon receiving the report, police conducted a search, including diving to the riverbed, and arrested the suspects at the scene.
The police plan to continue their investigation, suspecting there may be additional offenses beyond violating the Inland Fisheries Act.
