Yeongdeungpo-gu (District Mayor Choi Ho-kwon) announced that it will conduct the "2024 Eulji Exercise" for four days from August 19 to 22 to prepare for national emergencies such as wartime and crises.
Started in 1968 following the infiltration incident by North Korean armed agents, the Eulji Exercise is a large-scale emergency preparedness drill conducted nationwide once a year to strengthen the protection of citizens' lives and property in the event of a national emergency.
This year, the district plans to strengthen the local community’s response system by closely cooperating with civilians, government, military, and police to conduct realistic drills. Through this, the district aims to establish an emergency preparedness posture and enhance the security awareness of its residents.
In particular, the district plans to thoroughly review the effectiveness of the Chungmu Plan, the roles of each agency, and the response system for various situations to swiftly respond to recent threats and provocations such as North Korea’s release of trash balloons toward the South.
Before the full-scale Eulji Exercise, the district will hold an Integrated Defense Council meeting on August 14 to declare an integrated defense emergency, open and operate a support headquarters. In addition, it will conduct surprise emergency assembly drills for public officials, ▲operation of a comprehensive wartime situation room ▲formation of wartime organization and agency dispersal and relocation drills ▲wartime enemy terror response drills ▲civil defense evacuation drills, among others.
Especially on August 20, assuming a wartime enemy attack situation, Yeongdeungpo-gu Health Center and the Korean Red Cross will cooperate to set up a temporary wartime blood donation center at the district office annex. Through actual blood collection drills, they will raise awareness of the necessity of blood supply and practice supply procedures.
On August 21, the district will conduct a large-scale "wartime enemy terror response drill" in cooperation with key national institutions such as the Korea Securities Depository, the 7688th Unit, Yeongdeungpo Police Station, Yeongdeungpo Fire Station, and Korea Electric Power Corporation Nam Seoul Headquarters. Through realistic drills simulating fires caused by enemy terror, the district plans to establish a close cooperation system among civilians, government, military, and police.
On the same day, a "Military Equipment Exhibition and Emergency Food Tasting Event" will be held in the district office yard and Dangsan Park area to raise residents’ security awareness. Various citizen participation programs such as demonstrations of human detoxification centers and drone equipment will also be prepared.
On the last day of the drill, August 22, a "Civil Defense Air Raid Evacuation Drill" involving the entire nation will be conducted. A "resident life-oriented demonstration drill" will be held for community leaders and residents, including education on cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR).
