A Man Pretends to Make a Phone Call and Sneaks Out Food
He May Be Punished for Special Theft or Obstruction of Business Crimes
A man and a woman were caught taking meat and side dishes in plastic bags out of an all-you-can-eat meat restaurant. On the 12th, JTBC's 'Sageon Banjang' introduced a bizarre story experienced by Mr. A, who runs an all-you-can-eat pork restaurant in Daegu on the 1st. Mr. A received a call from his husband, who was watching the store's closed-circuit television (CCTV) at the time, saying he saw two people, a man and a woman estimated to be in their 40s to 50s, separately taking food and packing it into containers.

Upon hearing this, Mr. A approached the customers, as there had occasionally been such guests before, and warned them not to take food outside. The customers apologized, returned the meat, and hurriedly left the store. After they left, Mr. A reviewed the CCTV footage again and confirmed that the customers had repeatedly taken marinated meat that had been pre-grilled, as well as side dishes and vegetables, packing them multiple times. The woman packed the food into containers and handed them to the man, who pretended to make a phone call and went outside the store to smuggle the food out. Mr. A expressed, "I reported this hoping that such incidents will not happen again."
Attorney Shin Yoo-jin, who appeared as a panelist, pointed out, "The two people divided roles on-site and committed theft together," adding, "This is clearly an act punishable under special theft and obstruction of business." She continued, "People should not think of such acts simply as 'just taking food home to eat,' but recognize that it constitutes a serious crime of special theft, and I hope such behavior will not happen again." Netizens responded to the story with comments such as, "Many people don't know that taking food from a buffet is theft," "There are quite a few customers like that, I hope they stop," and "They should be reported to the police and properly shamed so they won't do it again."
