A Japanese woman who threw raw eggs daily at her neighbor's air conditioner outdoor unit for four years has sparked outrage among local netizens.
On the 13th, Japan's Abema Times reported on the raw egg-throwing incident that took place in Kawanabecho, Gifu Prefecture. According to the report, Ms. A, a woman in her 50s living alone with her husband, had been suffering from unexplained harassment by her neighbor for four years. The perpetrator is Ms. B, a 50-year-old unemployed woman living alone. She threw raw eggs at the neighbor's air conditioner outdoor unit every morning between 7 a.m. and 9 a.m. Sometimes it was one or two eggs, but at times she threw as many as 20 eggs at once. Because of this, one of the two outdoor units was damaged and broke down due to the raw eggs.
Ms. A, unable to endure it any longer, installed a closed-circuit television (CCTV) which captured the act. The suspect was arrested three years ago on the same charges but was released and continued to harass the neighbor afterward. The suspect reportedly also came outside to verbally abuse Ms. A whenever she smelled curry or grilled meat from her house. Ms. A spent over 2 million yen on cleaning, painting, and installing security cameras. The suspect, Ms. B, has been arrested and is under investigation by the police but is denying all charges.

Japanese netizens expressed surprise that Ms. A endured the harassment for four years but said the perpetrator neighbor should be evicted. One netizen said, "In cases like this, the perpetrator should be ordered to leave. Even if arrested, they are released and the behavior just repeats," adding, "There must be a grudge against the victim, and this could escalate into a bigger incident." Another netizen commented, "The victim's family is too kind, which is the problem," and said, "They should have reported immediately and warned neighbors about the danger." Some netizens noted, "Similar incidents happen involving people with intellectual disabilities or elderly people with dementia," and warned, "This is not just an individual problem but could grow into a social issue."
